JUST IN: Bassirou Faye has been inaugurated as the Youngest President of Senegal.

Bassirou Diomaye Faye, a left-wing pan-Africanist, was sworn in as Senegal’s youngest president on today [Tuesday].

At 44 years old, Faye won the election in the first round with a promise of radical reform, just 10 days after his release from prison.
Despite never having held an elected position before, several African leaders attended his inauguration in Diamniadio, near Dakar.

During the ceremony, Faye took the oath before God and the Senegalese nation, pledging to faithfully fulfill his duties as President and uphold the Constitution and laws. He also expressed his commitment to defending the nation’s integrity, national independence, and working towards African unity.

The official transfer of power from outgoing President Macky Sall will occur at the presidential palace in Dakar.
