Lagos State Government Implements Strict Measures: Non-Compliant Supermarkets and Malls Face Closure Over Missing Price Tags

The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has issued a stern warning to supermarkets and grocery stores within the state regarding their failure to display price tags on products. This warning is part of LASCOPA’s efforts to promote transparency and safeguard consumers against potential price exploitation.

Non-disclosure of price tags can lead to misunderstandings and inconvenience during the purchasing process. Mr. Afolabi Solebo, the General Manager of LASCOPA, highlighted that such practices not only violate consumers’ rights but also contravene the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency law. He emphasized the importance of adhering to regulations, as the absence of price tags prevents consumers from making informed decisions.

Additionally, Mr. Solebo mentioned that these practices go against the Consumer Protection Act, which mandates the clear display of prices for goods and services. Failure to comply with these regulations will result in fines as per consumer protection laws. He further stated that LASCOPA will take decisive action, including sealing off supermarkets, to enforce compliance with the requirement to display price tags on products on shelves.
