JUST IN:Tunde Onakoya is poised to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest Chess marathon

Tunde Onakoya, a Nigerian chess master, coach, and the founder of Chess in Slums Africa, has dedicated himself to making a difference in the lives of children from underprivileged backgrounds. Through initiatives in slums like Majidun (Ikorodu), Makoko, and now Oshodi, he aims to empower these children by teaching them chess alongside essential literacy skills during intensive two-week sessions.

On April 17th, 2024, Tunde is set to attempt breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest Chess Marathon in Times Square, New York City. His ambitious goal is to play continuously for 58 hours without losing a game.

This extraordinary feat is not just about personal achievement but also about shining a light on the dreams of millions of children across Africa who lack access to education.
