During the inaugural Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations ceremony at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, President Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, announced on Monday night that April 7th has been designated as National Police Day.

He emphasized the importance of transforming the police force into a modern and accountable institution through institutional mindset changes and training initiatives. Since taking office in 2023, his administration has implemented significant reforms to revitalize the force.

Additionally, the Federal Government has approved the first week of April as Police Week, with April 7th marking National Police Day in Nigeria.

President Tinubu highlighted the human aspect of policing, acknowledging the challenges faced by officers and their vital role in safeguarding the nation amidst security threats.
