The Federal Government has initiated the allocation process for 8,925 houses as part of the National Housing Programme

The Federal Government has announced the allocation of 8,925 houses to eligible recipients across Nigeria as part of the National Housing Programme (NHP). The announcement was made by Dr. Marcus Ogunbiyi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development in Abuja.

According to the statement, there are no completed houses in Abia, Lagos, Bayelsa, Rivers states, and the FCT. However, the allocation process for these states will commence after the housing units are completed later in the year.

The National Housing Fund (NHF) is a government scheme that offers low-interest loans to Nigerians above 21 years in paid employment. Applicants contribute 2.5% of their monthly salary to the fund through the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria. The maximum loan amount has been increased from N5 million to N15 million, with a repayment period of up to 30 years at a 6% interest rate.

The first batch of allocations includes various payment modes such as outright payment, mortgage, rent-to-own, and installment payments. Successful applicants under the outright payment mode will receive provisional allocation letters and will be contacted by relevant authorities for collection. Applicants under other payment modes are currently undergoing profiling.
