Bullets and Flags: Four Years of Silent Tears

Around October 8, 2020, a wave of hope swept across Nigeria as the End SARS movement united citizens against police brutality. It was a call for justice, for dignity, for the end of violence against innocent people. But on October 20, 2020, that hope was shattered. At Lekki Toll Gate, peaceful protesters—armed with nothing but the Nigerian flag and their voices—were allegedly gunned down by security forces.

Today, October 20, 2024, marks four years since that dark day, and yet, we are still searching for answers. Who ordered the shooting? Why was such cruelty unleashed on unarmed youths? Even now, despite overwhelming evidence, there are denials—claims that no shots were fired, no lives lost. The truth remains buried in darkness, leaving behind a trail of pain and injustice.

On this solemn day, we remember those brave souls who never made it home. We pray for their families, for healing, for the strength to carry on. May the fallen rest in peace, and may their sacrifice never be forgotten.
