NAFDAC Declares War on Fake Drugs: Massive Seizures, Market Shutdowns, and a Safer Future for Nigerians”
The era of unregulated, hazardous drug markets is coming to an end. NAFDAC and PCN are now relocating drug traders to modern Coordinated Wholesale Centres (CWCs) — purpose-built environments for safe, traceable, and professional pharmaceutical trade.
Lagos traders have a 48-month relocation timeline
Onitsha and Aba traders are expected to move within 18–24 months
Sabon Gari Market (Kano) has already transitioned and is serving as a national model for CWCs
This initiative marks a new era for drug distribution in Nigeria — one where accountability, professionalism, and safety are non-negotiable.
NORTHERN OPERATIONS: UNMASKING DANGEROUS IMPORTS
Recent intelligence-led surveillance in Kano State led to the seizure of large volumes of unregistered cosmetics and creams, many bearing unclear foreign inscriptions (Chinese, Arabic) with no visible instructions or manufacturer details. These were discovered in shops, supermarkets, and warehouses, and are now securely in our custody as investigations continue.
TO EVERY NIGERIAN: YOUR HEALTH IS YOUR POWER
Public health is not just a government responsibility — it is a national cause. To protect yourself and your family, take these critical steps:
Look for the NAFDAC registration number on all regulated products
Check for batch numbers, production and expiry dates
Avoid tampered or suspicious labels
Buy medicines only from registered pharmacies displaying the official “Pharmacy” signage
Never buy drugs or cosmetics from street vendors or open markets
If you come across suspicious or illegal products, report to the nearest NAFDAC office — we are operational in all 36 states and the FCT. Our hotlines, email addresses, and online reporting platforms are open and accessible.
This is a national battle — and we will not rest until Nigeria is free from the dangers of counterfeit and substandard products. With your support, and the unwavering dedication of our officers, we will build a safer, healthier nation for all.
It is my privilege to serve — and to lead this fight in defense of every Nigerian life.
