The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has tendered his resignation amid ongoing certificate forgery scandal.

This was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, the Minister tendered his resignation letter today with the approving his resignation.

The statement read; “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted the resignation of Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, following some allegations against him.

“President Tinubu appointed Nnaji in August 2023.

“He resigned today in a letter thanking the President for allowing him to serve Nigeria.

“Nnaji said he has been a target of blackmail by political opponents.

“President Tinubu thanked him for his service and wished him well in future endeavours.”

Nnaji’s resignation is coming barely 24 hours after breaking silence over alleged forgery of his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) as well as his National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) certificate.

It was reported that the Minister was an exclusive investigation by Premium Times caught in the certificate forgery scandal.

According to the investigation, the UNN disowned the certificate in the possession of Nnaji, saying the politician did not complete his studies at the institution and was never issued a certificate.

Reacting in a Press Conference held on Monday, the Minister represented by the Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Robert Ngwu, denied the allegations.

Nnaji accused the university of indulging itself in political games to political interests, stressing that the allegations were borne out of plot to sabotage his candidacy in the 2027 Enugu State gubernatorial election.
