Yahaya Bello expresses fear of arrest but intends to attend court

Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, currently facing a 19-count charge from the EFCC, expressed readiness to attend the Federal High Court in Abuja.

However, due to fears of arrest, he was absent during his arraignment but was represented by his legal team. Bello’s lawyers argued for the exparte order of arrest to be set aside, citing that the charge had not been properly served when the warrant was issued. They also contested the legality of the EFCC, stating that the agency was established without consulting the states as required by the Constitution.

On the other hand, EFCC’s counsel opposed setting aside the arrest warrant until Bello appears in court for arraignment, asserting that his absence and numerous applications were delaying tactics.

The court considered the arguments and the issue of EFCC’s legality, emphasizing the need for Bello’s physical presence before deciding on the application or objection.
