Dele Momodu: “I Will Never Run for President Again”
In a candid revelation during a recent interview, renowned media tycoon and publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu, shared his disillusionment with Nigeria’s political landscape. Reflecting on his 2023 presidential ambition, Momodu made it clear that he had no intentions of ever contesting for the presidency again.
> “I will never run for president again. I wasted N50,000,000 to buy that form, and I didn’t get a single vote,” he revealed.
Momodu’s frustration stems from the financial demands of Nigeria’s political system. He recounted how some candidates allegedly paid as much as $30,000 per delegate, with 774 delegates participating in the process. This translates to a staggering amount spent simply to secure party votes—a practice that has long raised concerns about the monetization of politics in Nigeria.
His remarks have reignited discussions on the accessibility of political offices in the country, particularly for candidates with genuine aspirations but limited financial resources.
Dele Momodu’s decision to step away from presidential ambitions highlights the need for urgent electoral reforms to create a level playing field for all candidates, regardless of financial status.
